Gail King of Rockwood fought her way to the top at the WKF World Kickboxing Championship in Andria, Italy from Nov. 14 to 19.
King, who is one of five females on Team Canada, left the tournament with a gold in full contact and two silvers in K-1 and light contact classes. She did well at both provincials and nationals, securing her position on Team Canada.
Each country that is part of the World Kickboxing Federation sends their champions for the tournament.
“You could be fighting someone who has had 50 fights or like 20 fights,” she said in an interview with the Advertiser.
King said the whole experience was exciting and fantastic.
“To even been selected to be on team Canada and then to bring home a gold, I was pretty determined I was coming back with medals so when I actually got the gold I felt like crying,” she said.
