ROCKWOOD – Affirming Ministries in the United Church publicly declare their commitment to inclusion and justice for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
And their commitment to justice goes beyond gender and sexuality, state church officials.
Affirming Ministries “continually grow and change as they seek to live more fully into God’s way of welcome, love and justice for all creation.
“After a journey of learning together, our congregations of Rockwood and Stone voted in June 2023 to become Affirming Ministries,” officials continue.
April 28 celebrations
On April 28, the two congregations will officially celebrate becoming Affirming Ministries.
Affirming congregations strive to be safe and inclusive places for all people, especially those oppressed, excluded and marginalized by age, ability, dietary needs, mental health, economic status, language, racial and cultural backgrounds, marital status, family configurations, gender expression or sexual orientation.
The travelling service of celebration will begin at Stone United at 10am and continue at Rockwood United later in the morning, followed by a “rainbow luncheon.”
Special music will be provided by the combined church choirs – the Bell Ringers at Stone and the Chimes Choir at Rockwood.
Representatives of the umbrella organization Affirm United will present each congregation with certificates of recognition and notes of congratulation will be shared.
Reverend Heather Leffler will share her message, and communion, which is open to all, will be served.
All are welcome to join in this special time of celebration.
