Rockwood Sacred Heart Students get lesson in holiday safety

A lesson in fire safety – On Dec. 16 the Guelph/Eramosa Fire Department had students from Rockwood Sacred Heart Catholic School visit the Rockwood Fire Hall for a holiday fire safety information tour.Platoon Chief Rob Crosbie gave students from Sacred Heart a tour of Pumper 21 and the many compartments that carry lifesaving tools, such as the Jaws of Life. Firefighter Jeff Ross demonstrated to students what a firefighter looks like with protective bunker gear on, teaching students not to fear firefighters who may save their lives.

Fire Prevention Officer Mathew Williamson introduced students to the hazard house. Students were presented with home fire hazards and asked how they would make it safer. Topics included Home Fire Escape Planning and knowing what to do when the alarms sound.

Students dropped off donations of stuffed toys at the fire hall to be used to comfort children in an emergency.
