ROCKWOOD – Officials here have confirmed Santa Claus is coming to town.
It won’t be until Dec. 10, but the news may come as a relief for children who have witnessed so many special events being cancelled this year.
Glenn Storey, chair of the Rockwood Farmers’ Santa Claus Parade of Lights, said the format will be different due to safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It will be a drive-by light show,” Storey said. “A stationary parade.
“Not many towns are having parades so we’re expecting a big crowd. And Santa will definitely be there.”
The annual Parade of Lights is an evening parade that features farm vehicles all lit up and decorated.
Normally the crowds are stationary and the vehicles drive by.
This year the 24 floats will be parked at seven different farms on the 4th Line south of Wellington Road 124.
Parade-watchers will remain in their vehicles and drive past the displays.
Storey said the Township of Guelph-Eramosa has helped with permits and road closures, and local firefighters will help with traffic control.
“We also have the blessing of the health department, so it will be safe,” he said.
The floats, provided by local farmers, are by invitation-only this year and the parade is designed to raise awareness about agriculture.
“But really, it’s just a family-friendly, neighbourhood affair,” Storey said.
The 28th edition of the Rockwood Farmers’ Santa Claus Parade of Lights runs from 6 to 9pm on Dec. 10.
