GUELPH – Right at Home officials say they are honoured to celebrate 10 years of providing a full range of in-home, family-funded health care services for adults of all ages in Guelph and Wellington County.
While providing and coordinating external support services for her family members many years ago, Laura Greenway thought there must be a better way to support those who needed health care at home and navigational assistance.
In 2014, the home care environment was complicated, restrictive and unreliable. At the time, Greenway was concerned for those needing health care advocacy, especially when family or friends were unavailable. There wasn’t one point of contact or a known pathway to follow to get help at home.
Greenway became a registered nurse in 1982 but went into the family business – unrelated to healthcare – in 1997.
And there she remained for about 15 years when she heard of an opportunity with Right at Home Canada.
After discussion with the company’s corporate team, Greenway decided to take the plunge and open her own franchise.
The company offers at-home nursing care, personal support, meal preparation and housekeeping, foot care and transportation to patients of all ages and needs.
Some are post-surgery, some recovering from accidents, some have dementia and some are elderly and need some personal support.
Right at Home can also refer patients to other services like physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
Its head office is located in Guelph with small offices in Mount Forest, Kitchener, and Greenway said it is looking for space in Georgetown as the geography and patient load has increased.
Greenway now employs eight office staff and more than 80 professional caregivers.
And now she and her team are celebrating their 10-year milestone.
“We pride ourselves in offering exceptional support and care services for those with physical, medical or memory impairment, at home, wherever home is to them,” Greenway said.
The health care landscape can be tricky to navigate alone, Greenway said. It’s her job and her passion to help clients on their health care journey.
While essentially charging a fee for service, Right at Home can supplement the support already provided by family members, government resources or retirement residences.
“Whether it be a companion, transportation, personal care, nursing care, dementia support, end-of-life or respite care, we can assist, with full flexibility to change as your family’s care needs change,” she said.

“We will work hard to continue to be a small or large piece of your family’s ‘care puzzle’ as needed, assisting and supporting you in navigating changes as they come.”
