On May 11, motorcyle riders will be getting in gear for a 100 km scenic ride in support of Lupus.
The inaugural “Ride for Lupus” event is intended to bring attention to a common but little known life-threatening autoimmune disease that affects more than 50,000 Canadians.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body’s own tissue or organs in the body, including skin, muscles, joints, blood and blood vessels, lungs, heart, kidneys and the brain. The aim of this fundraising event is to help educate people about Lupus, while at the same time raising funds to help carry on the work that will one day bring a cure for this disease and save lives.
Organizers are working with the SickKids Foundation and all proceeds of the event will go directly to the Pediatric Lupus Research Unit at the Hospital for Sick Kids.
Participants are encouraged to log onto www.rideforlupus.ca and register early.
Guelph’s first “Ride For Lupus” will depart on May 11 from the Stampede Ranch, located at 226 Woodlawn Rd. Registration is at 8:30am (rain date May 25, rain or shine).
