A local group of friends is running a charity cook-off Ribfest in memory of a Mount Forest man who died of cancer last summer.
The ‘Git yer Hillbilly on’ Ribfest amateur cook-off competition will be a kick-off event for the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival.
Come for the food. Come for the competition.
The event is family friendly and will feature live entertainment and celebrity judges, including members of the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack, who will help select Mount Forest’s barbecue royalty.
The event takes place July 19 from 6 to 9pm at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
Advance tickets are $15 and available at Mount Forest Chiropractic and Meat the Butcher.
Proceeds will go to Cancer Patient Services and local youth Sports in memory of Bill Walker.
An award-winning journalist and a local soccer, ringette and hockey coach and volunteer, Walker was well known to many people throughout Grey, Bruce and Wellington counties.
He was 53 when he passed away of stomach cancer.
