MOUNT FOREST – The annual Mount Forest Ribfest is set to make a return.
The fourth annual event takes place July 14 at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. Running from 5 to 9pm, it is a kickoff event for the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival.
“The pandemic shut us down in 2020 but we were able to do a drive-through last summer and we plan to return to our usual competition format dine-in experience this year,” said event committee member Axy Leighl.
The 2022 edition of the “Git Yer Hillbilly On” Mount Forest Ribfest will be licensed and feature live music alongside the main draw – the rib-cooking competition. The family-friendly event will run rain or shine. Takeout will also be available.
Proceeds from Ribfest go to local health care services and local minor sports.
The event honours the memory of local volunteer Bill Walker, who passed away from cancer in 2017.
“Bill was heavily involved in the local minor sports scene – coaching ringette, soccer and hockey for many years,” said Leighl. “He was a competitive community-minded guy who fancied himself an expert barbecuer and we strive to capture those characteristics in our memorial fundraiser.”
Tickets will be available at Mount Forest Chiropractic, Meat the Butcher and various locations around town.
The price for a rib dinner, including coleslaw, baked beans and dessert, is $25. There will also be taster tickets to purchase so fans can sample ribs from various competitors.
