RFC donates $10,000 to Rockmosa Park

The Rockwood Football Club has donated $10,000 from recent fundraising efforts to Guelph-Eramosa Township for the future soccer fields within the expanded Rockmosa park.

Rockwood FC president Stephen Hunter explained the donation was primarily for lighting on the fields.

“Soccer as you well know is so important in Rockwood and we’re trying to build those extra fields,” Mayor  Chris White said to the members of the Rockwood FC at the Sept. 19 council meeting.

“Hopefully get you guys a lot of play time out there.”

White acknowledge how difficult it is to fundraise and thanked the Rockwood FC for it’s donation.

“This is a lot of money you folks have put together so we really appreciate it,” White said. “It helps us to move these soccer fields along.”

Though the Rockwood Football Club is closing out its 2016 season, there are changes on the way for 2017.

The RFC Rep Division will be adopting training methods, techniques and ideology of the RFC Elite to maximize player development, officials say.

The program, which the club calls the “RFC Way,” will allow players to develop individual abilities and talent in a team environment, state officials. Coaches will be responsible for implementing the program.

“The ‘RFC Way’ will not only seek to develop strong soccer players and young leaders of the future, we are committed to developing opportunities with professional clubs and schools so that the dream of playing soccer at the highest level can be achieved,” said technical consultant Aaron ‘Azza’ Kerr.
