On April 24 open auditions will be held for men and women interested in performing as ensemble members in Drayton Entertainment’s upcoming production of The Sound of Music.
No appointments are necessary, but aspiring performers should be prepared to sing up to two minutes of any musical theatre song.
Performance experience is an asset, but not required. Officials say a passion for singing and an outgoing personality are the only prerequisites.
Hopeful performers are asked to bring sheet music as an accompanist will be provided, along with a recent photo.
Auditions will take place at the Drayton Festival Theatre between 5:30 and 7:30pm.
Performers must be available for each performance of The Sound of Music, which is taking place at the Drayton theatre from May 15 to June 9.
Rehearsals will be held April 30 to May 14, mostly in the late afternoon or early evening at the Drayton theatre.
There will also be some weekend rehearsals.
“We are delighted to create opportunities for members of the local community to appear on stage and work side-by-side with professional actors,” said Alex Mustakas, artistic director of Drayton Entertainment.
“This show promises to be a grand production and everyone involved is going to have a truly rewarding experience.”
Tim French is the director and choreographer for the production and Charlene Nafziger is the music director.
In this love story, Maria, an aspiring nun, leaves the convent to govern the seven mischievous children of Captain von Trapp. The score features such songs as My Favourite Things, Do Re Mi and, of course, the title song.
