To complete the next step of the St. David Street Bridge reconstruction, work is required on the watermain.
Water will be shut off overnight from 11pm on April 23 to 5 am on April 24.
Originally planned for April 16 and 17, the work was rescheduled due to weather.
The work will be completed overnight to minimize any impacts on downtown businesses and residents.
The water shutdown is required so the contractor can install a temporary water line to serve the buildings on the north side of the St. David Street bridge construction.
The contractor will be excavating down to the watermain to install new valves.
Impact
This work will cause some overnight construction noise in downtown Fergus around the intersection of St. David Street and St. Andrew Street.
Due to the nature of this work, there is a possibility that neighbouring residents and businesses may experience discoloured water.
The discolouration is caused from iron and manganese that are naturally occurring in the groundwater.
When construction is done on the watermains there is a temporary change in pressure and the minerals that have settled in the distribution system can be stirred up.
Township staff will continue to monitor water quality throughout this period.
Properties impacted by the water shut down and construction will receive written notification.
