WELLINGTON COUNTY – There are numerous opportunities to remember war veterans on Remembrance Day. Here’s whats going on in the county:
County: The County of Wellington will hold a Remembrance ceremony on Nov. 6 at 10:30am at the County of Wellington Museum and Archives.
The county is also hosting a candle lighting ceremony at the museum on Nov. 10 at 5:30pm.
Salem: Remembrance Day begins in Salem on Nov. 11 with the Elora Legion organizing a service at the cenotaph from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Cenotaph is located at the corner of William and Water streets.
Elora: The Elora Legion will hold a service on Nov. 11 at the Elora cenotaph, located in MacDonald Square, from 10:50 to 11:50 followed by light refreshments at the legion.
Fergus: The Fergus Legion will host a Remembrance Day service on Nov. 11 at the cenotaph, located at the corner of Tower and Bridge streets. A parade to the cenotaph begins at the legion at 10:30.
Puslinch: The Optimists of Puslinch will once again host a Remembrance Day service on Nov. 11 at the Puslinch Community Centre in Aberfoyle. Service runs from 10:50 to 11:50.
Wellington County Museum and Archives: On Nov. 6, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, names of those who died in the world wars will be read during a ceremony at the museum. Markers of the war dead will be placed on the hill outside the museum for an impressive and moving display.
Rockwood: On Nov. 11, a Remembrance Day parade will commence at 10:30 from the Rockwood Post office and proceed to the cenotaph, located at the corner of Main and Guelph streets in the village. Service is to begin at the cenotaph at 10:55. Attendees are invited for light refreshments at St. John’s Anglican Church following the service. Please note, Hwy. 7 between 4th Line and Milton Eramosa Townline will be closed during the service as well as some local streets surrounding the cenotaph.
Drayton: The Drayton Legion Branch 416 will hold a Remembrance service at 2:15pm on Nov. 11 at the cenotaph in Drayton. The Legion parade will form up at the legion at 2:15pm, then proceed along the parade route to the cenotaph for the service.
Palmerston: Palmerston Legion Frank Lambier Branch 409 will hold their annual Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph at 11am on Nov. 11.
Legion members will parade from the Palmerston branch, up Legion Drive, west on Main Street, south on William Street, west on Bell Street to the cenotaph. A short ceremony will take place at the cenotaph with a few guest speakers.
Everyone is welcome to attend a light lunch at the Legion after the cenotaph service.
A Remembrance Dinner will be held at 6pm.
Harriston: Harriston Legion branch 296 will hold a wreath-laying ceremony in Clifford at the cenotaph there on Nov. 5 at 2pm.
The Harriston Remembrance Day ceremony begins with a parade to the cenotaph and wreath laying on Nov. 11 at 11am, with social time and refreshments at the branch afterward.
Holstein: The Mount Forest Legion Branch 134 is hosting a Rembrance Service at the Holstein cenotaph on Nov. 5 at 2pm.
Mount Forest: Mount Forest Legion Branch 134 will assemble at 10:40am for a Remembrance Day ceremony at the cenotaph at Veteran’s Memorial Park. A light lunch will be served at the legion following.
Arthur: A parade will depart Arthur Legion Branch 226 (281 George Street) at 10:40am on Remembrance Day and proceed to the Arthur cenotaph at George and Frederick streets. The service begins at 11am.
