Christmas tree collection fundraiser supports Children’s Foundation

GUELPH – It’s not too early to start thinking of how to dispose of your real Christmas tree, and the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington can help.

The organization is getting set for the 13th edition of its Trees for Tots event, a fundraiser that sees volunteers collecting old Christmas trees at the curb in exchange for donations to support  Children’s Foundation programs for local kids.

“Trees for Tots is more than just a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of community spirit and environmental impact,” foundation community engagement manager Jodi Carreiro stated in a news release.

“Every tree picked up, every dollar raised directly supports children and youth in our community, while also contributing to some great environmental initiatives right her in Guelph, at the Guelph Arboretum and Marden Park. It’s a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together.”

For a suggested minimum donation of $15, residents of Guelph, Puslinch and Rockwood can have their Christmas trees picked up from the curb after the holidays.

Collected trees are chipped and repurposed for various projects, including creek restoration and walking trails, the release stated.

People must register in advance for the fundraiser, and the deadline to register is noon on Jan. 7. Residents can register online at treesfortots.ca or by calling 519-826-9551, ext. 125.

Pickup is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Children’s Foundation has acknowledged indi Mortgage as the Trees for Tots presenting sponsor, JL’s Tree Service and Hersey Bins as lead partners, Alliance Roofing as the toque sponsor, Planet Realty realtor Tyson Hinschberger as the registration sponsor, and Neeb Excavations Inc. as the media sponsor.

“Their generosity and commitment, along with many other event partners, underscores the community spirit that defines Trees for Tots,” the release stated.

All proceeds from Trees for Tots support the Children’s Foundation and its mission to enhance the well-being of children and youth by connecting them to experiences and supports that contribute to their sense of belonging and help them to reach their full potential, officials say.

The foundation invests in children through food security, access to recreation and life-skill activities, mental health and educational support, and holiday assistance.

Last year, Trees for Tots collected more than 3,600 trees and raised over $93,000, showcasing the significant impact of this initiative in addressing the community’s growing needs.
