Today, and in my world, many others are encountering God. At worship concerts and Christian conferences, in large and small churches, behind closed doors in countries where the preaching of the Gospel is forbidden, as well as in our little A La Mode coffee shop down the street, many are “filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed” (Acts 2:43) by those encountering God’s presence.
It is a wonder when football teams stop to pray before game time. It is a wonder when baseball stars point fingers to heaven giving thanks to God as they round the bases for a home run. It is a wonder when a small group of people meet to pray on a Monday night for a brother diagnosed with an advanced form of cancer, and when, after which, and following numerous tests, no trace of cancer remains. It is a wonder when a little girl squints her eyes shut at a Christmas concert and recites the words, “My eyes are tightly closed and my lips speak out to say, ‘I love my dearest Jesus, Christmas and every day.”
Restored marriages
Stories abound about how marriages are being restored at counseling sessions, retreat centers and through various support systems. If I were to print these stories, the headlines might look like this.
A marriage on the brink because of the lure of sex, drugs, and non-stop good times is redeemed
Friends who placed bets on how long their marriage would last would have won their bets had it not been for their surrender to Christ
Woman has an affair, husband struggles to take her back, finding answers and strength they need in Jesus Christ
A workaholic, not realizing what he had until he lost his wife and family, decides to rededicate his life to Christ, God restores his life completely
