ERIN – The RCMP Musical Ride delighted thousands in Erin on Aug. 27 and raised over $50,000 for the Erin Agricultural Society (EAS), officials say.
Over 5,000 people attended the weekend performances at the Erin Fairgrounds, which was a charitable fundraiser for the EAS.
“It was excellent,” said event co-chair Bridget Ryan.
“We had an amazing turnout, amazing support from the community. And the Mounties, they were just so great. The RCMP did such a professional show.”
Spectators came out to watch riders and horses under sunny skies, enjoying a patriotic celebration of community and Canada.
Pre-ride show entertainment included The Fergus Pipe Band, and award-winning Four Paw Flying Entertainment, dog agility, precision jumping and games.
“The Musical Ride and the Erin Agricultural Society would like to thank the many volunteers and local partners who helped to make the event a success,” officials say.
Funds raised from this event will be used to support the new agri-dome, providing a permanent home for agricultural education and awareness at the fairgrounds.
Funds are still coming in but so far the Erin ride has raised over $50,000, officials say.
The next stop for the Musical Ride is St-Andre-Avellin in Quebec, where 32 horses and riders will perform on Sept. 3.
This year, the Musical Ride also went to London, England to perform at Queen Elizabeth’s’ Platinum Anniversary Jubilee, riding horses previously gifted to the Queen from Canada.
Over the years, the RCMP has presented the Queen with eight horses in total.
