The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride is coming to Erin this September.
On Sept. 10, the Erin Agricultural Society is hosting the Musical Ride, a famous Canadian tradition of horses and riders performing a variety of cavalry drills choreographed to music.
Two shows, one at 2pm the other at 7pm, will be held at the Erin Agricultural Society fair grounds at 190 Main Street.
“We applied in 2000, and we applied in the next four years and the next four years, we’ve been trying for a long time to get it,” said Eileen Brown, secretary of the Erin Agricultural Society.
Prices still need to be approved, but Brown said tickets will likely cost $10 for an adult and $5 for a child, with family rates available.
Tickets will go on sale online at erinfair.ca and at a few locations in Hillsburgh and Erin in the future.
Money raised at the event will go towards accessibility renovations at the Erin Agricultural Society building.
“It will be a good kick-start to (the renovation project),” said Brown
The Musical Ride was developed in 1876 by early members of the Northwest Mounted Police to display their riding ability and entertain the local community.
The show has evolved over the decades into a uniquely Canadian performance that draws tens of thousands of spectators each year.
“Members of the Musical Ride are first and foremost police officers,” states a press release from the RCMP.
“They all have at least two years experience in active police work before volunteering for duty with the Musical Ride. Surprisingly, most have no prior riding experience.”
