Puslinch vows to buy Canadian

PUSLINCH – In the face of looming U.S. tariffs, Puslinch council has agreed to prioritize buying Canadian.

Both councillors Jessica Goyda and John Sepulis wanted to discuss a resolution adopted by the Town of Hanover to buy Canadian products and services whenever possible.

“Even though we’re a small municipality, if all municipalities in Ontario would do the same thing, it would send a big message,” Sepulis said at the Feb. 20 council meeting.

Included in the meeting agenda was also correspondence from Peterborough County, which had passed a similar resolution.

Councillor Sara Bailey wanted to understand the impact that could have on the municipality.

“It may cost more to support this,” she said.

Staff was directed to dig into purchasing practices and see how much American product they buy and whether there were options to buy Canadian products instead.

Council unanimously passed the resolution.
