Puslinch raises concern over sharing with UGDSB

Revisions to the Upper Grand District School Board’s community partnerships raised some flags at Puslinch council on April 6.

Council had received an email to inform the municipality about the board’s release of draft revisions to three board policies:

– Pupil Accommodation Reviews;

– Community Planning and Partnerships; and

– School Boundary Review.

Council was encouraged to review these policies and associated procedures which can be found at: www.ugdsb.on.ca/policy and to complete a short survey to provide local feedback.

The deadline for comments is 4:30pm on May 11.

At the April 6 council meeting Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever said he had the opportunity to review the policies.

“It is an interesting policy in that it talks about working with communities – but that it would be at no cost to the board, and full cost recovery of any (school) facilities used,”said Lever.

The mayor then suggested to council the municipality needs to start working on a “sharing agreement” with the Upper Grand District School Board regarding the use of the Aberfoyle Public School.

“We’ve talked about possibly using some of the property up there and they are certainly getting free use of some of our facilities,” Lever told council at the meeting.

“(The board) seems to think (sharing) should work all in their favour … and I’d like to see some compromise out of this.”
