Councillors here are still working on final details when it comes to expansion of the Puslinch Community Centre.
In his May 2 report, councillor Wayne Stokley said there were productive meeting about the operations and the community centre. He said in previous discussions council had said to proceed with an addition.
“There were a few other items tied in with that,” he added.
But, he said, those remain in the air until a decision is made about the addition.
Stokley and councillor Ken Roth, along with Chief Building Official Robert Kelly and staff met with the architect to look at what is wanted and to determine what is important.
Stokley said one of the priorities is the maximum footprint the addition will have. The second priority is to achieve a maximum amount of storage with the addition.
Mayor Dennis Lever appeared puzzled at that comment as Stokley continued. Stokely said the committee’s third priority was the best fit of the new washrooms in the addition, for accessibility.
Stokley said there would be two, which would be specifically for men or women, and a possible third, a family washroom.
He alluded to the possibility of an office in the addition.
Stokley said the first items are the priority. He said more meetings are needed to get the proposal moving.
Lever questioned the maximizing of storage.
“What I think we agreed to was that the new addition would be the washrooms, and that the current washrooms would be converted into storage.”
Stokley said that is true.
“But with the size of the addition, there is the opportunity to have a portion of the new addition to have some storage as well.”
Lever said if that is the case, “My concern is that will we minimize the price by keeping the storage confined to the existing washroom space and not building more [to the addition] just for storage.”
Stokley agreed, and said there was discussion with the architect to ensure the project would remain within budget.
Lever said “I would also like to see any proposed office spelled out as a separate price.”
He said there had been no discussion at council about an officer in the proposal.
Council was slated to have more discussion at its May 16 meeting.
