CAMBRIDGE – Members of the public are invited to read and comment on the Draft Updated Drinking Water Source Protection Plan for the Grand River watershed. The plan has been prepared under the Clean Water Act, 2006 to protect municipal sources of drinking water and ensure their sustainable use into the future.
The Grand River Source Protection Plan was approved by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks in November, 2015. The Source Protection Program is designed with continuous improvements in mind. Updates to the Plan are now proposed as a result of the completion of a number of technical studies.
The proposed updates affect several municipalities in the Grand River watershed, including the cities of Cambridge and Kitchener, as well as the townships of Centre Wellington, Puslinch and Woolwich.
The draft updated plan is now available for review online at www.sourcewater.ca/GR-SPP-Update. Due to the ongoing pandemic, viewing the plan in person is not currently possible.
Two webinars will also be held in February for members of the public to learn more about the plan and some of the proposed changes. Both webinars will begin at 7pm and will be available for members of the public to view at: www.sourcewater.ca/GR-SPP-Update.
A webinar on Feb. 17 will provide information on the proposed changes to the Cambridge East Wellfields and how they impact the Township of Puslinch.
A webinar on Feb. 18 will provide information about the proposed changes to the Township of Centre Wellington municipal water supply following the completion of the Tier 3 Water Budget study.
Members of the public are invited to submit comments in writing by March 8 to:
