Ontario is creating three new licensed child care spaces in Wellington County, increasing the availability for local families and promoting early learning and development.
The following schools will be given three licensed child care rooms and 49 spaces:
– Rockwood Centennial Public School;
– Erin Public School; and
– Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rockwood.
“This investment is wonderful News for east Wellington families,” said Guelph MPP Liz Sandals said in a press release.
“The ministry of education is working with (Wellington County’s) consolidated municipal service manager … and local school boards … to identify locations for new child care spaces.”
Overall, Ontario is investing in about 3,400 new licensed child care spaces across the province this year.
“Over the next five years, we are going to create an additional 100,000 licensed child care spaces,” said Indira Naidoo-Harris, associate minister of education.
“We are working hard to build a child care and early years system that gives our children the best start in life — and Ontario families the support and peace of mind they need.”
This commitment will double the current capacity for children up to four years old in licensed child care.
Ontario is also seeking public input on its early years and child care system.
Feedback received from parents, families, experts and the public will help shape the government’s vision and framework for early years programs and services, including the commitment to create 100,000 new licensed child care spaces within the next five years.

Investing in the early years and child care system is part of the government’s plan to create jobs, grow the economy and help people, states the province’s press release.
