Police say the Wellington County OPP prescription drug drop-off event here on May 11 was a great success.
The event was a public safety initiative to encourage Ontario residents to dispose of old and unused prescription medication in a secure, environmentally-friendly manner.
Police say the total weight of unused medication dropped off at the Centre Wellington OPP operations centre in Aboyne was just under 9kg (or almost 20 pounds).
Wellington County OPP officials said they would like to thank Target Pharmacy and Fergus Printing for their assistance in making this initiative a success.
Guelph event
The Guelph Police also hosted a prescription drug drop-off event on May 11, from 10am to 3pm.
Guelph police say hundreds of people dropped off over 68kg (or 150 pounds) of pharmaceuticals, including one drop off of 300 percocets, a popular street drug. The Guelph event also filled four sharps containers with old, unused syringes.
