Councillor Susan Fielding is hoping organizations working to hammer out the rules for source water protection will find some common ground.
In bringing Puslinch councillors up to date on the issue, Fielding said representatives from various source water areas have been meeting “and they are finding a lot of common ground.”
She said source water is a big issue for many municipalities – “particularly for Wellington County and other areas which are located within a number of source water protection areas.”
The province has demanded that all parts of Ontario have source water protections plans in place and each area is doing studies to come up with protection rules.
“It’s a good move that the Ministry of the Environment has recognized this is a big issue. It sounds like they are making progress and there is a meeting minds,” said Fielding.
She hoped that within the next few months there would be something more positive to report. She hopes to see more unity among the various source water protection plans.
“It’s what everyone is really heading for. It would be almost impossible to have five different plans in place within one county,” Fielding said.
Mayor Dennis Lever was pleased to hear other municipalities have the same issues.
