Wellington North council is hoping to clear the waters at the Mount Forest pool.
Councillor Bob Mason said one of the current goals of the recreation committee is to make sure the Mount Forest pool is operational by next summer.
Recent recreation committee minutes noted that Austin Carroll, of Austin Carroll Pool Construction, was at a recent meeting explaining different ways his company could deal with the problems at the Mount Forest pool.
Mason said another pool company was contacted to give committee members ideas.
“What is all wrong with the pool,” asked councillor John Matusinec.
Mason said, “The filter system has had it.”
The system dates back decades and has simply worn out, he explained.
The result is that the filtration system is blowing sand back into the pool, which, in turn, is affecting water clarity.
“Structurally the pool is fine,” Mason said.
He added the chlorine and other chemical levels are fine; the issue is water clarity.
No refunds
In related new business at the committee level, Mount Forest pool patrons had asked for refunds for lessons and pool passes because of the closure earlier this summer.
Committee members stayed with their original decision not to issue refunds.
During the closure, free bussing was made available for lessons as well as public swims at the Arthur pool.
