Ponsonby Sting men”™s fastball to play New Zealand

The Ponsonby Sting men’s fastball team is in full swing for another year of fastball.

The team is currently playing in the South Perth Men’s Fastball League with six other teams, with home games taking place on Mondays at 8:30pm at the Ponsonby Park.

The Ponsonby Sting are entered into the International Softball Congress (ISC) qualifier tournament in Mitchell, Ontario.

The game is  is a qualifying tournament for the ISC World Tournament held at the Peter Hallman ball park in Kitchener from Aug. 11 to 18. Thirty six teams from across North America will be competing.

A good showing in the qualifying tournament by the Ponsonby Sting could mean an invite to the World Tournament.

One of the highlights this year is an exhibition game on June 25 at 8:30pm at Ponsonby Park against the New Zealand Jr. National team. The New Zealand team will be competing in the World Junior Tournament later this summer.

Officials are hoping for a good turnout of supporters.

Also, the Sting is hosting the Tom Rider Memorial Fastball Tournament at Ponsonby Park on July 6 to 8. This tournament features local fastball teams including the Ponsonby Sting.

The team is made up of local fastball players from the Ariss, Elora, Fergus and Hillsburgh.
