Ponsonby Recreation Club gears up for season

The Ponsonby Recreation Club will be hosting its annual general meeting (AGM) on Jan. 19 at 7:30pm at the Obergans.

The club is run by a dedicated group of volunteers striving to provide a venue for softball, picnics and ball tournaments for the community at large. The club is looking for new members to continue with the 40-plus-year tradition of providing softball for the community.

Last year was a very busy season for Ponsonby Minor Softball (ponsonbysoftball.ca), which included over 50 T-ball players and two travelling Mite teams. In addition, there were travelling Atom and Squirt teams. The teams play in the Intercounty Softball League (isasoftball2013.com).

The men’s team, the Ponsonby Sting, qualified to play in the ISC world men’s fastball tournament hosted in South Bend, Illinois. The team is looking to qualify again this year. Plans are in the works to attend qualifying tournaments.

Discussions will be held at the AGM to determine what park improvements to earmark for 2016, uniform sponsorship and tournament scheduling. For more information contact obergan3@gmail.com.
