The Wellington OPP is advising residents to be vigilant when dealing with door-to-door sales people.
Rockefeller said police have received a number of calls recently from residents from across the county advising of the increase in door to door sales people offering to provide different services or trying to sell a variety of products such as hot water heaters and air purifiers.
Quite often those people are unable to provide business cards, product information on official letter head and are usually not wearing proper identification.
Rockefeller said people should keep in mind that it might be a scam.
She added people should know their rights; they do not have to let sales people into their homes and those callers must leave when asked to do so.
She added that if they persist and refuse to leave they could be in contravention of the Trespass to Property Act.
Rockefeller said citizens should avoid getting into a confrontation and simple call the police at 1-888-310-1122 or for emergencies, dial 9-1-1. Anyone interested in what a door-to-door salesperson has to offer, should not make any decision without carefully researching the product first and seeking independent advice before making a decision, if necessary.
She added, people should ask themselves: Did I get all the details in writing before paying or signing anything?
