The Wellington County Police Services Board and Wellington County officials have now completed construction of a new building to house the OPP.
The state of the art 18,800 square foot office will provide space for policing units assigned to the new building at Wellington Place.
OPP Constable Mark Cloes said the move began on April 12, with business as usual for pedestrian traffic at the downtown Fergus office.
On April 13, police duties started in the new building. The location will be known as the new Centre Wellington OPP Operations center. The dispatch number for those requiring assistance stays the same at 1-888-310-1122 but the administrative phone number for inquiries will be 519-846-5930.
A grand opening ceremony and open house is planned for April 29 from 2 to 5pm at the new operations center.
That is being held with formal opening ceremonies scheduled to start at 2pm, and open house tours offered after the conclusion of the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Wellington County social services committee is considering moving some of its operations to the downtown building.
