Despite repeated warnings from law enforcement officials, the dangerous practice of pointing lasers at airplanes continues to be an issue for pilots.
On March 3 at about 10pm, Wellington County OPP officers responded to the area of Laird Road West, near Wellington Road 22 and Sideroad 10 North in Puslinch Township for reports of someone shining a laser at flights passing over the area.
Police were contacted by officials at Toronto Person International Airport but were unable to locate a suspect in the area.
“OPP would like to remind everyone that shining a laser pointer at any driver, whether it's a pilot of an aircraft or a vessel or even a driver of a vehicle, can be extremely dangerous,” police stated in a March 5 press release.
“The magnitude of the beam is greater at distances despite the fact the observer may not be able to see light on the target. Just because you can't see the focus of the beam on the target doesn't mean that the target isn't being hit.”
Police say officers continue to investigate and charges may be pending.
