County OPP officers continue to receive numerous theft reports regarding items taken from unlocked vehicles in the Fergus area.
Unfortunately, despite all the media coverage and promotion of this program, officers still receive numerous calls regarding thefts from vehicles. In most cases valuables being stolen are GPS units, loose change, satellite radios, wallets, cameras, laptops and tools.
Police are reminding vehicle owners that thefts from vehicles are a crime of opportunity. An unlocked vehicle door or an open window is an invitation to thieves.
Remembering to always roll up the windows, lock the doors and keep valuables out of plain view, could prevent theft from occurring.
The key to protecting vehicles is simply securing them – lock it or lose it.
Police are also asking the public to say something if they see anything suspicious, including persons or activity near their vehicle or roaming the area. Anyone with information can call the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
