Wellington County OPP has utilized automated licence plate recognition (ALPR) technology for two full years and “has seen remarkable results,” police stated in a press release.
Specially-trained officers logged approximately 1,420 hours in the vehicle in its second full year, almost double the previous year (720 hours).
In its second year (April to April) ALPR cruiser results were: 110 suspended drivers; 32 unlicensed drivers, four prohibited drivers, 15 impaired/over 80mg drivers, 20 drug charges, 32 criminal charges, 281 traffic offences, one warrant executed, 137 roadside screening device tests, 20 warning range suspensions and 70 insurance charges.
