GUELPH –  Police say a highway safety blitz here last week uncovered dozens of offenses.

On June 27, officers from the Wellington County OPP, including its Aircraft Enforcement Program and the Highway Safety Division, operated the blitz on the Hanlon Expressway in Guelph. 

“The day-long initiative spotted seven commercial motor vehicles and 20 passenger vehicles committing offences,” police stated in a press release. 

Charges include speeding, stunting/racing and following too close, police say.

Drivers from Kitchener,  32, Burlington, 23, and Guelph, 25, were charged with racing and are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Had cannabis but no plates, insurance

GUELPH – On June 15 at about 1am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a blue sedan on the Hanlon Expressway. 

As 22-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with driving while suspended, using an unauthorized plate, driving without insurance and driving with cannabis readily available. The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date. 

Commercial vehicle charges

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The OPP has recently laid a number of charges against commercial vehicle owners and operators.

On June 16 at about 8:30am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a commercial vehicle on Wellington Road 86 in Guelph/Eramosa. A 51-year-old driver from Mississauga was charged with having an insecure load, load not secured as prescribed, failing to complete daily inspection reports and failing to stop for an emergency vehicle contrary to the highway traffic act. A Caledon business was charged with allowing  a load not secured, allowing a person to drive with an non-secure load and failing to ensure a daily inspection report is accurately completed. 

On June 16 at about 1:15pm, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a commercial vehicle on Elmira Road North in Guelph. A 19-year-old driver from Terra Cotta was charged with driving while suspended, driving with a non-secure load, failing to surrender a permit for a trailer, failing to complete daily inspection reports and failing to have an insurance card. 

The defendants are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Drivers charged for no insurance

WELLINGTON COUNTY – A number of people have recently been charged by the Wellington County OPP with driving without insurance.

On June 18 at about 8:30pm, an officer stopped the driver of a red hatchback on the 5th Line in Guelph/Eramosa. A 22-year-old driver from Caledon was charged with driving while suspended and driving without insurance.

On June 22 at about 8pm, an OPP officer stopped the driver of a blue sedan on 2nd Line in Guelph/Eramosa. A 24-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with failing to apply for permit on becoming owner, using altered plates, obstruct plates, failing to surrender  a licence, being an unaccompanied G1 driver and driving without insurance.

On June 22 at about 9pm, an officer stopped the driver of a blue sedan on Wellington Road 19 in Centre Wellington. A 22-year-old driver from Centre Wellington was charged with driving without insurance.
