WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.
Those arrested include an 18-year-old Harriston resident, who was charged with assault (spousal) and assault with a weapon (spousal), in relation to an incident in Harriston on Feb. 18.
The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Vehicle damage spree
GUELPH – A Guelph man faces dozens of charges after 26 vehicles had their windows smashed in downtown Guelph last week.
Guelph Police officials say that on Feb. 18 at about 3:30am, police began receiving reports of vehicles with damaged side windows.
“All damaged vehicles were parked in the areas of Cork Street and Yarmouth Street. It is believed the suspect was looking for items to steal, however no thefts were reported from any of the vehicles,” police stated in a Feb. 20 press release.
Police say the total damage is estimated at more than $13,000.
“It was believed the suspect sustained an injury to his hand or forearm, as blood was found at the scene including inside some of the damaged vehicles,” police stated.
“He was captured on surveillance video at one of the scenes.”
On Feb. 19 the suspect was located downtown and arrested, police say, and he had injuries consistent with the evidence at the scenes.
A 33-year-old Guelph man is charged with 26 counts each of mischief under $5,000 and attempted theft under $5,000, two counts of failing to comply with a bail order and one count of breaching a probation order.
He was held for a bail hearing last week.

Driving charges
CENTRE WELLINGTON – Local police have charged two Kitchener residents after a traffic stop here last week.
On Feb. 20 at about 11:30pm, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a traffic enforcement and pulled over a vehicle on Wellington Road 18 in Centre Wellington.
A 20-year-old from Kitchener was charged with careless driving, failing to properly wear a seat belt and failing to use lower beams.
The accused was also given a warning for unnecessary noise.
A 23-year-old from Kitchener was charged with failing to properly wear a seat belt.
More driving charges
FERGUS – Police have charged a Fergus resident with several driving offences after a traffic stop here last week.
Wellington County OPP officials say that on Feb. 17 at about 7am, officers performing traffic enforcement pulled over a vehicle on Queen Street East in Fergus.
A 34-year-old from Fergus was charged with driving without insurance, obstructed plate, driving with improper headlights and driving without a permit. The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

MOUNT FOREST – Wellington County OPP officers have charged a Mount Forest resident with four provincial offences.
Police say that on Feb. 16 at about 1:45pm, OPP officers were performing a traffic enforcement initiative and conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Mount Forest.
A 27-year-old from Mount Forest was charged with driving without insurance, using unauthorized plates, driving without a licence and failing to display two plates. The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
