Police beat: Officer assaulted: OPP

CENTRE WELLINGTON – A local man has been charged after a police officer was allegedly assaulted here  earlier this week.

Wellington County OPP officials say an officer “detected a suspicious motor vehicle, which led to a traffic stop” on 3rd Line in Centre Wellington on Jan. 26 at about 3:30pm.

Colin Lake, 37, of Centre Wellington, was charged with assaulting a peace officer. He is to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 28.

Partner violence

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.

Those arrested include a 37-year-old  from Arthur, who was charged with two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (spousal) in relation to an incident in Wellington North on Jan. 21;

The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Driving charges

FERGUS – An Arthur driver is facing several charges, including careless driving, after being pulled over by police here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers were monitoring traffic on Tower Street South in Fergus on Jan. 23 at 9am when they stopped a “suspicious” vehicle.

A 46-year-old from Arthur was charged with failing to stop for an emergency vehicle, careless driving, driving without a valid permit, driving without insurance and producing a false insurance document.

The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

More driving charges

PALMERSTON – A Listowel driver is facing several charges after being pulled over by police here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers were performing a traffic enforcement initiative on Jan. 20 at about 12pm when they detected a “suspicious” vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Main Street West in Palmerston.

A 44-year-old from Listowel was charged with driving without insurance, driving an unsafe vehicle, plates not clearly visible, windshield not cleared, failing to surrender a permit and two counts of driving while suspended.

The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
