GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A two-seater airplane crashed at the Guelph Airpark here on the evening of Sept. 1.
Emergency services responded to the airpark at around 6:30pm and located the crashed Tapanee Pegazair-100 aircraft, states a Wellington OPP press release.
The home-built aircraft, designed for short runways, impacted the ground before the runway and flipped over, according to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).
The pilot and a passenger were not injured, however there was substantial damage to the aircraft.
The TSB did not attend the crash site, and will not be investigating further, having deemed the crash a “class five” occurence, where there is little likelihood of identifying lessons that will advance transportation safety.
Such investigations are limited to gathering data for statistical reporting and analysis.
Items stolen from unlocked vehicles
ROCKWOOD – Police are reminding residents to always lock their vehicles after recent overnight thefts from unlocked vehicles.
On Aug. 30 Wellington County OPP responded to two reports of unlocked vehicles being entered sometime overnight at residences in the town of Rockwood.
Police say sunglasses, change and documents were stolen by someone.

Pedestrian struck with vehicle
ELORA – A Guelph man has been charged with careless driving after a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian here.
On Aug. 21 at about 1am emergency crews responded to the collision involving a sedan and a pedestrian on West Mill Street in Elora.
“Emergency services responded and the pedestrian did not require medical attention,” states a press release from the Wellington County OPP.
A 60-year-old driver from Guelph was charged with failing to remain at the scene of a crash and careless driving.
The driver is to appear in Guelph court at a late date.
Break-in, theft
MOUNT FOREST – Wellington County OPP officials are investigating a break-in at a commercial property on McDonald Road here on Aug. 14 at about 9:15am.
Police say the person(s) responsible stole several tools.

Two-vehicle crash
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – One person was sent to a local hospital with minor injuries following a two-vehicle collision just west of Guelph.
Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a fully loaded commercial vehicle at Fife Road and Wellington Road 32 on Aug. 31.
Police say one driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and the roads were closed for several hours while tow operators worked to remove the involved vehicles.

Load not secured
CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Aug. 16 at about 3pm, a Wellington County OPP officer observed a pickup truck pulling a trailer with a load of hay bales that did not appear to be properly secured on Campbell Road in former Nichol Township.
A 20-year-old from Fergus was charged with 12 Highway Traffic Act charges, including having a non-secure load, overweight vehicle, improper brakes on a trailer, and failing to display two plates.
The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
On phone while driving
WELLINGTON COUNTY – On Aug. 18 at about 3:30pm, a Wellington County OPP officer observed a driver of a commercial motor vehicle allegedly talking on a cellphone.
A 39-year-old from Stevensville was charged with driving while using a hand-held communication device.
‘Major defect’ on commercial vehicle: OPP
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – On Aug. 19, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting commercial motor vehicle (CMV) inspections on Elmira Road North here.
A 28-year-old from Scarborough was charged with driving a CMV with a major defect, failing to surrender a completed daily inspection report and driving without a validated permit.
A Scarborough business was charged with failing to ensure performance standards are met and failing to ensure a daily inspection report is completed.
“The license plates were removed from the vehicle due to critical safety concerns,” police stated.
