GUELPH – One person suffered serious injuries as a result of a two-vehicle collision here last week.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, on the Hanlon Parkway near Willow Road in Guelph, on March 26 at about 8pm.
Wellington County OPP officials say the collision involved an SUV and a dump truck towing a trailer.
“One of the drivers, a 43-year-old from Guelph, was transported to a trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” police stated in a press release.
“No other injuries were reported.”
The northbound lanes on the Hanlon Parkway were closed for about four and a half hours.
“The cause of the collision is still under investigation,” police stated.
Scams target seniors
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police are yet again warning residents to be vigilant after discovering fraud scams targeting senior citizens in the county.
Wellington County OPP officials say they were contacted on March 6 by a concerned senior in Minto.
“The senior reported that they received a call from an individual claiming to be affiliated with an energy company,” police stated in a March 28 press release.
“The caller was offering a seniors energy rebate and requested to come to the senior’s home to verify if they qualify for the rebate.
“The alert senior contacted their utility companies and confirmed that it was a scam.”
On March 22, Wellington County OPP was contacted by a concerned relative of seniors in Guelph/Eramosa.
Police say that on March 21 at about 8pm, two suspects came to the victims’ home claiming to be from a water company.
“The victims were offered gift cards in exchange for permission for the suspects to enter the home and conduct water quality tests,” police stated.
“After the suspects had left, the victims discovered that prescription medication was missing.”
Police say there may be more victims of these types of frauds. Anyone with information can contact police or Crime Stoppers.
Businesses damaged
MOUNT FOREST – A local man has been charged in connection with property damage at two businesses.
Wellington County OPP officials say police were called between March 11 and 12 about property damage at the businesses, located on Industrial Drive in Mount Forest.
“It was reported that an individual entered … one of the properties and damaged two parked vehicles. The same individual later attended another nearby business and damaged a security camera,” police stated in a press release.
George Hammill, a 51, of Mount Forest, was charged with two counts of mischief (destroy/damage property) and two counts of possession of break-in instruments.
He was held for a bail hearing.
