Police beat: Guitar, amp stolen

MOUNT FOREST – Police are looking for help to identify the person responsible for a break-in and theft at a business here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers were called to the store on Main Street South in Mount Forest on March 10 at 8am.

“It was determined that [sometime between 5:30 and 7:59am], an unidentified suspect shattered the lower pane of the front glass door, granting access to the business,” police stated in a press release.

“The suspect then ransacked the interior, leaving with an amplifier and electric guitar and fleeing northbound on Main Street.”

Police have described the suspect as “believed to be male,” dressed all in black and wearing a backpack with a guitar possibly stored or sticking out of it.

“The estimated value of the stolen property is $350, with the cost of the repairs to be unknown at this time,” police stated.

Stolen equipment recovered, charge laid

PALMERSTON – Police have recovered goalie equipment stolen three years ago and have charged a North Perth man in connection with the theft.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers began an investigation on Feb. 18 after a victim reported that “his personalized goalie equipment had be stolen by an unknown person back in 2022 from the Palmerston area.”

Andrew Doupe, 47, of North Perth, was charged under possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000). He is to appear in Guelph court on April 8.

Partner violence

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.

Those arrested include:

– a 44-year-old Mount Forest man, who was charged with mischief, failure to comply with an undertaking and two counts of spousal assault, in relation to an incident in Wellington North on March 13; and

– a 32-year-old Rockwood resident, who was charged with spousal assault and assault with a weapon (spousal), in relation to an incident in Rockwood on March 13.

The accused individuals are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Cigarette and driving charges

MOUNT FOREST – A Holstein resident is facing a number of charges after a traffic stop here last week.

Wellington County OPP officers performing a traffic enforcement initiative on Main Street North in Mount Forest pulled over a vehicle on March 11 at 1:15am.

A 39-year-old from Holstein was charged with driving while suspended, using unauthorized plates, driving without insurance, driving with an improperly secured load, driving an unsafe vehicle and possessing unmarked cigarettes.

Driving charges

PUSLINCH – A Burlington man faces a number of driving charges after being stopped on Highway 401 here last week.

A Wellington County OPP officer pulled the vehicle over on March 12 at about 1:15pm.

A 30-year-old from Burlington was charged with defective braking system, improper brakes on a trailer, overweight vehicle, improper tires, improper muffler and improper emission control equipment.

The accused was also given warnings for five other violations.

FERGUS – Police have charged a Fergus man with several driving violations following a traffic stop here earlier this month.

Wellington County OPP pulled over a commercial vehicle on March 8 at about 6pm on St. David Street North in Fergus.

A 39-year-old from Fergus was charged with driving with defective brakes, having an obscured interior, driving without a muffler and two counts of improper tires.

The accused was also given warnings failing to stop for a commercial vehicle for examination, driving an unsafe vehicle and having improper lights.
