GUELPH – A house fire here last week that claimed the life of one person and seriously injured another has been deemed not suspicious in nature.
On March 19, the Guelph Fire Department, Guelph Police Service and the Office of the Fire Marshall started to investigate a house fire on Sunset Road in Guelph.
A 41-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene and a 40-year-old woman remains in a Hamilton hospital.
“After two days of investigation this fire was deemed not suspicious, ending police involvement,” stated a press release from Guelph Police.
Careless charge in crash
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Kitchener resident has been charged with careless driving following a two-vehicle collision here last Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the scene, at the intersection of Highway 7 and Wellington Road 32 in Guelph/Eramosa, west of Guelph, on March 19 at about 1pm.
“One driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” stated a press release from the Wellington County OPP.
A 69-year-old from Kitchener was charged with careless driving.
Another careless charge
FERGUS – On March 15 at about 3:45pm, emergency crews responded to a three-vehicle collision on Beatty Line North.
“One driver was taken to local hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” stated a press release from the Wellington County OPP.
A 35-year-old from Brampton was charged with careless driving.
Partner violence
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.
Those arrested include:
– a 55-year-old from Harriston, who was charged with assault (spousal) and assault causing bodily harm (choke, suffocate or strangle) in relation to an incident in Harriston on March 17;
– a 37-year-old from Holstein, who was charged with uttering threats (damage or injure animal) in relation to an incident in Clifford on March 19;
– a 45-year-old from Fergus, who was charged with assault (spousal), assault with a weapon (spousal) and mischief (under $5,000) in relation to an incident in Fergus on March 20;
– a 24-year-old from Mount Forest, who was charged with two counts of assault (one spousal) in relation to an incident in Mount Forest on March 22; and
– a 29-year-old from Fergus, who was charged with mischief and assault with a weapon (spousal) in relation to an incident in Fergus on March 22.
The accused individuals are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
‘Disturbance’ charges
MOUNT FOREST – A Mount Forest resident faces four criminal charges in relation to what police are calling a “disturbance” here last week.
Wellington County OPP officials say that on March 20 at about 4:30pm, officers were dispatched to “an address” on Egremont Street in Mount Forest.
Justin Pitre, 22, of Mount Forest was charged with two counts of uttering threats (to cause death or bodily harm and to damage property) and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
He was held in custody, pending a bail hearing.
