MAPLETON – A London man has been charged in connection with a break-in at a rural home here last month,
Wellington County OPP officials say police responded to the home on 4th Line at about 1:15am on Feb. 21.
“It was reported that two parties had broken into a home and had fled on foot,” police stated in a March 12 press release.
“Police responded (and) located two stolen vehicles near the residence: a beige pick-up truck from Wallenstein and a white [SUV] from London.One party was located on a nearby property and charged.”
Later that day police say they charged the same man with another theft. Officers responded to a theft call on Clyde Street in Elora at about 5:45pm on Feb. 21.
“It was reported that an individual had stolen a bicycle and had damaged it,” police stated in the release. “Police responded and located the same suspect from the early occurrence and laid further charges.”
Tarrick Andrew Fakira-Martin, 30, of London, was charged with theft (under $5,000), mischief, two counts of break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
He is to appear in Guelph court on April 16.
Police did not provide an explanation for why it took nearly three weeks to release details about the incident.
‘Intimate partner violence’ charges
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police laid 24 charges in a dozen incidents across the county involving “intimate partner violence” last month.
OPP officials did not provide any information about whether or not the statistics mark an increase over other months. In a March press release, the OPP listed the following incidents and charges between late January and late February:
– Jan. 28 incident in Minto, 26-year-old man from Harriston charged with assault with a weapon, mischief, uttering threats to cause death and two counts of spousal assault;
– Jan. 29, Centre Wellington, 48-year-old man from Guelph charged with spousal assault and sexual assault;
– Jan. 31, Wellington North, man from Wellington North, 60, charged with spousal assault;
– Feb. 1, Centre Wellington, 36-year-old man from Centre Wellington charged with spousal assault, mischief, and breach of recognizance;
– Feb. 10, Centre Wellington, 19-year-old man from Guelph charged with spousal assault;
– Feb. 10, Minto, 36-year-old woman from Palmerston charged with spousal assault and mischief;
– Feb. 11, Wellington North, 44-year-old woman from Arthur charged with mischief;
– Feb. 21, Minto, 27-year-old man from Harriston charged with spousal assault and mischief;
– Feb. 22, Centre Wellington, 35-year-old man from Belwood charged with two counts of spousal assault;
– Feb. 24, Minto, 36-year-old man from Harriston charged with spousal assault and assault causing bodily harm;
– Feb. 24, Wellington North, 39-year-old man from Wingham charged with failure to comply with an undertaking and failure to comply with a probation order; and
– Feb. 29, Centre Wellington, 64-year-old man from Southgate charged with spousal assault.
