A Guelph man faces over two dozen charges after he was caught trying to steal a vehicle.
On March 13 at about 5:50pm, Wellington County OPP received a report about a stolen vehicle from Guelph-Nichol Town Line in Guelph-Eramosa.
“Shortly thereafter, with the help of OnStar, the vehicle was disabled when the thief attempted to flee from OPP,” police stated in a press release.
Dustin James Lucas, 20, of Guelph, was initially held for bail and charged with flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, assaulting police and failing to comply with a recognizance.
With the assistance of the Wellington County Community Street Crime Unit, the OPP recovered over $40,000 in property, including two vehicles and assorted electronics, and has laid 20 new charges against Lucas:
– attempted assault with a weapon;
– theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000;
– theft under $5,000;
– possession of stolen property under $5,000;
– attempted theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000
– two counts of break and enter;
– three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000;
– five counts of fraudulently using a credit card; and
– five counts of fraud under $5,000.
Lucas was remanded in custody to await bail.
