New playground equipment for two local parks is coming in with a $90,000 pricetag.
On Aug. 24, Centre Wellington councillors approved the tender by PlayPower LT Canada Inc. of Paris for the design, supply and installation of play structures and swing sets for Keating Family and Drimmie Parks.
Keating Family Park is on Franklin Drive while Drimmie Park is on Keating Drive. Both are in Elora.
Wes Snarr, managing director of corporate services, recommended council award the work to PlayPower in the amount of $89,150 (excluding HST).
Snarr noted the scope of work is for the design, supply, and installation of a variety of play equipment designed to accommodate users aged 18 months to 12 years old for the two parks mentioned above.
He said suppliers were encouraged to use creative methods of fulfilling the play recommendations of CSA-Z614-14 while meeting specific criteria for each site.
Snarr noted the overall cost to the township (including the non-refundable part of HST) is $90,719 is only slightly more than the approved capital budget of $90,000.
Councillor Mary Lloyd recommended that in the future when meetings are on livestream – additional efforts need to be taken to let viewers know where the parks are located.
She noted these two are currently passive park areas with a small climbing structure and swing.
She asked if this move was part of a phasing in to continue upgrading parks on a sustainable basis.
CAO Andy Goldies said this this is part of an ongoing structure replacement process.
The idea is to replace some equipment each year throughout the next 20 years.
Mayor Kelly Linton agreed with the previous point made by Lloyd, that council needs to ensure its telling people where the parks are located.
“We’ll need to get better at that as we go into livestreaming – so people know what we are talking about.”
