Kelsey Lang is leaving Guelph-Eramosa after working as the township planning associate for over two years.
“She’s been an absolute pleasure to have in the office,” Mayor Chris White told the Advertiser. “She’s really good at what she does and she’ll be missed.”
White said Lang introduced formats and processes that make the planning process easier for township staff and the applicant.
“She’s got a whole format laid out … ‘here’s what you need to do, here’s where you need to go’ – it’s been absolutely fantastic,” White said.
Lang’s last day is July 29 but the township isn’t sure yet how to fill her position.
“In the short term we’re going to be using MHBC to fill the position … and then make a determination over time how we’re going to permanently fill the position,” White said.
He explained, “There’s three options: one is we just rehire and fill Kelsey’s position as it is today, hopefully with that arrangement to be part time at MHBC; or two, we just bring someone in from MHBC on that basis, it may be on a regular daily basis or on an as-needed basis; and then the third option may be to look at the county but none of those are finalized,” White said.
Lang has been spending three days per week at the township and two days working for MHBC.
The township originally hired Lang and brought her in house because there were a number of items that required planning attention, including subdivisions, quarries and bylaw reviews to name a few, White explained.
Now that many of those items are completed, the township will reassess the best way to proceed, he said.
