Pitch made to attract global talent

Wellington economic development officer Jana Reichert made a pitch to bring talent from across the globe to the county at the sold out 2014 Immigration Connection event on March 13 at the Hanlon Convention Centre.

Reichert showed excerpts from the county’s economic development strategy, workforce strategy and business employment and retention project “that substantiate our efforts to attract new residents to the county and to aid existing employers experiencing challenges finding workers,” she stated in a written report to county council on March 26.

She also noted the economic development department is working on a Wellington Job Portal. Based on a similar project in the Town of Minto, the municipal economic development group has explored the creation of a website dedicated to job and housing opportunities. The website would allow employers to add job vacancies and realtors and landlords could add accommodations. While the first page of the website would have a Wellington County look and speak to county wide sectors of strength and lifestyle, Reichert said staff are meeting with the web developer to discuss the customization possibilities for each municipality.

“I see this website as a good resource for employers, existing workers and new residents,” she states.

The project seeks constructive criticism and input regarding the pilot.
