PIN looking for folks to sit on boards of directors, offers training

GUELPH – The People and Information Network (PIN) is launching a program to help non-profit organizations find qualified volunteers to sit on their boards of directors.

Boards of directors hold key governance functions for community benefit organizations such as overseeing resources and finances, and setting strategic priorities and policies.

Five years ago, PIN started its Young Professionals on Board program, which links young professionals with established community leaders and local boards.

The goal is to build capacity for the next generation of leaders and provide an opportunity for individuals to learn new professional skills and expertise.

“To assist an organization to achieve their mission through board leadership is an immense gain for community and a meaningful experience for an individual,” says Kim Cusimano, executive director of PIN.

Several local nonprofits and charities are searching for new board members including Hospice Wellington, Up and Running Guelph, Family and Children’s Services Guelph Wellington and Bereaved Families of Ontario-Midwestern Region.

In addition to assisting with recruitment and training of board members, PIN is piloting a Community of Practice for board chairs and vice chairs.
