The PC party now has a candidate to run against current Liberal Perth-Wellington MPP John Wilkinson in the provincial election next fall.
On Nov. 20 the Progressive Conservative riding association officially elected Randy Pettapiece as its candidate.
John Nater, the regional vice president (southwest) for the PC Party, told the Wellington Advertiser Pettapiece won over fellow candidate Jeff Marshall by a 192 to 130 vote.
Nater added about 400 to 450 attended the nomination meeting at Listowel high school.
“It was a very good day,” he said.
Party leader Tim Hudak congratulated Pettapiece on his nomination and thanked him for his commitment to providing hard-working families with what Hudak called “real relief” and a much-needed chance to catch up.
“Soon, the families of Perth-Wellington will have a clear choice between four more years of Liberal high taxes or an Ontario PC government that will focus on their priorities,” Hudak said.
Pettapiece noted the families of Perth-Wellington are working harder but seeing less in their budgets because of the McGuinty Liberals’ tax hikes and expensive energy experiments.
“Families throughout Perth-Wellington are paying more and getting less,” Pettapiece said. “They deserve a government that shares their priorities, will provide them with relief and end the [Premier Dalton] McGuinty waste.”
Pettapiece has been married to his wife, Jane, for 37 years. They have three sons, three daughter-in-laws and four grandchildren.
Pettapiece has operated a decorating business in partnership with his wife since 1993. He lives just outside of Monkton, where he has resided since 1975.
