Pee Wee BB Mustangs celebrate take silver at LLFHL championships

The Grand River Girls Hockey Association Pee Wee BB team crossed off another major item from the season’s “to do list” from March 27 to 29 as it played for gold but lost in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League championship tournament.

The road to the title was no easy path as all four teams in the tournament were already champions of their respective loops.

On March 27,  the Mustangs played a pair of games as they bested the Niagara Falls Rapids 2-1 and then beat Scarborough 1-0.

Toronto Leaside was next on Saturday morning and the two skated to a 0-0 stalemate. With a record of 2-0-1 the team secured first place in pool play and a direct line to the gold medal showdown.

In the finals, the team faced a well matched opponent in the Niagara Falls Rapids. In the end, the puck luck went the way of the Rapids with one goal in the second period and gave Niagara the win and the Mustangs the celebrate silver.

The Mustangs are now looking toward the OWHA provincial showdown from April 10 to 12 in the GTA.

“Well done girls, your families, organization and community salute your accomplishments,” team officials said.
