ALMA – Santa Claus is coming to Alma.
In what has traditionally been his final pre-Christmas parade appearance in Wellington County, the jolly old elf will be on hand for the annual Alma Optimist Club Santa Claus Parade on Dec. 18.
“Peace on Earth” is the theme of the parade, which will begin at 2pm and follow the traditional route through village streets, beginning at the Alma Community Centre.
In addition to being the closest to Christmas among local parades, the Alma procession is also known for running the length of the village, with the first floats often returning to the starting point just as Santa is pulling out to join the fun.
Santa’s means of travel is always a well-kept secret and surprise to parade-goers. He has been known to travel in a wide variety of conveyances over the years. A traditional sleigh, horse and buggy, combine, high hoe, fire truck and farm wagon are just a few of the ways he’s gotten around the village in the past.
Anyone interested in putting a float in the parade is encouraged to reach out to the Optimist Club via email at almaoptimist@gmail.com for more details.
For those who can’t wait to see him, Breakfast With Santa is back for 2022.
Everyone is invited to join Alma Optimist Club elves for festive fun at the community centre on Dec. 18 from 8 to 10:30 am.
Santa will make himself available for photos (bring your own camera) at the event and have time to listen to last-minute gift ideas, and provide a little treat for the children.
No sign-up is required as the Santa breakfast is a drop-in event. There will be craft activities for the youngsters in attendance as well.
