Peace bond hearing set for May 26

Peace bond proceedings against Guelph blogger Bill Manderson will proceed at the end of May.

The case was delayed several times, but on Monday a full day was set aside for the peace bond hearing on May 26.

County councillor Brad Whitcombe and Chief Administrative Officer Scott Wilson sought the peace bond based on alleged threats made by Manderson in over 150 letters and on his website, smelly-welly.com.

If granted, the peace bond will require Manderson to keep the peace for a year, or face criminal charges.

There was some confusion about how much time the hearing would require, but on Monday both sides agreed a full day would be appropriate, given the number of witnesses that could be called.

Private prosecutor Steven Tanner, of McCarthy Tetrault, the firm representing Whitcombe and Wilson, said he intends to call three or four witnesses. And Manderson told the court he will call eight to ten witnesses.

The hearing will be begin May 26 at 9:30am.
