The Mount Forest Patriots are gearing up to battle EHC Dubendorf, a junior team equivelent from Switzerland, at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex on Dec. 29.
The Junior C Patriots will be one of six teams that the Swiss team will take on during its nine-day tour of Ontario.
Team president Derek Bridgwater said the Swiss players are excited to play in Canada “the mother of all hockey.”
He added the game will be a showcase of the talents of both teams.
“They asked us if we wanted to play and we said ‘yes’ right away,” said Bridgwater.
EHC Dubendorf coach Nico Eilinger told OHA media his team was gearing up to play on a smaller surface and a more physical game.
For the Mount Forest players, this will be a new experience.
“They’re playing somebody that they’ve never played before,” said Bridgwater.
“They get to see their style of hockey, which they’re not used to. I think it’s a great opportunity for both teams.”
Tickets are being sold for $10 for adults and $5 for students at the door, BDO in Mount Forest, Bridgwater’s Pools or from any member of the executive.
The team is encouraging attendees to wear Canada apparel for a chance to win a prize. The puck drops at 8pm.
