FERGUS – Patients had to be moved to a different wing, but no one was injured in a fire at Groves Memorial Community Hospital on Sunday morning.
Emergency crews responded to the hospital shortly after 7am on March 2.
Hospital spokesperson Alison Armstrong said there was “a small fire” in the hospital’s green patient care wing.
“The nursing staff were quick to respond and put the fire out,” Armstrong stated in a press release.
“There were no injuries, all patients were safe, and minor damage was reported.”
She noted green wing patients were moved to the blue wing “due to smoke.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“Visitors are asked to check in at the nursing care desk before visiting patients,” Armstrong stated.
“Special thanks to the quick response from the Groves hospital nursing, physicians, housekeeping, registration, and maintenance staff, as well as the Centre Wellington fire department and OPP.”
